The 70s revival of the multicolored sensation in white or yellow gold with wristwatches and precious jewels is making a comeback at Dior Joaillerie. Dior’s artistic director of jewelry, Victoire de Castellane, draws inspiration from asymmetrical, abstract and organic shapes in a nature-inspired color palette for Dior’s latest Gem collection.
Under De Castellane, the brand has developed a new chapter of Dior’s heritage, transforming couture and ready-to-wear into the form of high jewelry and fine jewelry for over 20 years with various successful Rose Dior collections. Trifle, Yes and Rose Des Vents. The Gem Dior collection consists of seven watches and eleven jewels inspired by color samples found in the Dior archives. The layered pattern of the yellow gold watch with accents of lapis lazuli, malachite and mother-of-pearl in a multicolored open cuff harmonizes diamonds, turquoise, onyx and aragonite stones.
“I wanted to move on to the abstract, but it’s always an organic abstract that breaks with figurative creation. I saw tourmaline slabs in octagonal and irregular shapes which inspired me for the dial of the watch”, De Castellane describing the unique harmony between nature and form. The architectural style of each room features a layering of different stone sizes. The watch case takes on an organic octane shape.
Other watches are available in steel and black mother-of-pearl, pink gold and white mother-of-pearl, yellow gold with diamonds and lapis lazuli, 18-carat gold and diamonds. The jewelry pieces in the collection add the elegance of stones to the Dior ring and cuff bracelet where lapis lazuli, chrysoprase, malachite and diamonds rub shoulders. For a muted statement of misaligned linked pieces, the design comes in a single metallic hue in the form of rose gold earrings, a yellow gold bracelet and a white gold ring, all with their touch of sparkling diamonds.
